Dog

Today I am posting  paintings of dog that I have done in last couple of days. First one is a color pencil sketch of a standing dog. Here I used very gentle strokes of yellow ocher color pencil to do the basic shading.

Below one is another sketch using color pencil, used black and brown color pencils to complete this sketch. Just drew the lines using the color pencil to depict the hair on the face and body of the dog.

Here is another painting of dog done using watercolor. For this sketch I used yellow ocher and light gray colors. Once the sketch is done, I used 0 size brush to draw thin lines of yellow ocher/ light gray lines around the body of the dog to depict the hair.

Below is another painting of dog done using watercolor. To do this painting, initially I gave  a layer of yellow ocher and light brown color. Once it is dried, then I drew black and brown lines.

Final one is another painting of mine done using oil paints.

Elephant

I have picked up elephant as my subject for today's painting.

here is the photograph of the elephant that I referred.

My aim was to get the exact replica of this elephant with correct body texture.

I have used watercolor paints, black ink gel pen and color pencils to complete this sketch.

1. I started of with the sketch by drawing the ground line and decided the height and width of the elephant and then proceeded with the sketch, here is the completed sketch.

2. Once the sketch was done, I painted the entire elephant with different shades of black, gray and blue.

3. After that used black ink gel pen to draw the lines to get the texture and used gray and black color pencils to give the finishing touch.

4. Finally finished the painting by giving a background using watercolor.

here is the finished painting.

Now that when I compare my painting with the original photograph, I feel pretty much I have got the texture of the body, but my sketch should have been little better, especially the tummy should been little more bigger. Anyway, learning happens by identifying the mistakes and rectifying them in future.

Rose

Today I picked up rose as my subject for drawing.
Here are the ways in which I proceeded, starting of with a simple rose.

 1.  Drew the basic structure of the rose as very thin lines.

 2. Completed the sketch in this manner.

 3. And then did smooth pencil shading. So,  here is the outcome : pencil sketch of a simple rose.

Here are some more paintings of mine of a rose. I generally start the sketch of a by drawing the petals which are at the center and proceed by adding the petals around the center.

The below sketch is done using pencils: 8B, 6B, 4B, 2B and HB.

here is an attempt to capture red rose in my watercolor pad.

And the below one is an acrylic painting.

Colors for winter

Actual intense winter seasons remind us of snow filled ground, trees, roof tops and only snow everywhere around. When we take winter as a theme for a painting, normally it will be dominant with white sunlit snow, blue and violet shadows and  bare trees with brown branch and tiny dry bushes here and there. Almost all winter scenarios have them in common when we get a practice on this basic stuffs, we can develop these winter paintings by adding crimson red houses, blue, light gray far away trees etc.

Here is the practice I did to draw a winter scenery:

Four Seasons

Since last year, I have been witnessing the sharp color difference with the climate change. Born and brought up in a place where I could feel only two seasons in a year(rainy season and summer),  when I had to move to a different part of the world it was really treat for the eyes to witness four seasons(winter, spring, summer and fall). Now I am actually understanding the fact that every  scenery is greatly influenced by the time of the year and time of the day.   As I gaze through my window daily, the changes in the color of trees, bushes, plants with season have influenced me a lot. So I thought of picking this topic as a subject for my next oil painting.

I collected photographs of a place in four different seasons. Divided my canvas sheet into four parts, dedicating each to a season and came up with following painting:

Some of my old pencil sketches

I always enjoyed doing pencil sketches. Though I am very poor at imaginary art works, I somehow am good at copying the pictures and creating an exact replica of them (trying hard to come out of that mode, and create my own art works), a few outcomes are here:

My venture into the world of oil painting

Always I have had plans to create a space for myself to post my paintings. But was struggling to make that very first beginning. Finally i have come out of that shell.. am coming up with my first post. hurray!!!

Though i am not a born talent in painting, somehow i developed an interest towards painting since childhood, That strong desire always converted my leisure into a piece of drawing, made me to travel miles to painting classes, and may be today helped to make some decent art works.(hope i can mention so..)

For my first blog i thought let me select my first oil painting.... as it is very close to my heart, outcome of 15 long years of wait.

This is a finished product, else i had plans to post step by step to capture the progress of the work. hope i will be able to do that during my future works.
